2. Begin researching the assigned region.  Use books and the Internet to find information. Use the planning/research guide to help you organize your information.  See student Example of research guide
You will need to include 10-15 details about the landforms and terrain.

3. Complete this Checklist. Hand in your research information and checklist to your teacher.

4. After your research has been approved and your planning guide has been returned, meet with a
classmate who is studying the same region. Compare details and discuss the types of images that would support your findings. Review the student exemplar to better understand the assignment. Jot these suggestion/keywords on your planning guide.

5. Use the sites provided to find images. Once you have explored the sites provided you may use a
search engine (i.e. Google) for any additional images that you need. Think carefully about which keywords
to use in your search!

6. Save images to your social folder. Note: you might have to rename the images so that they are easy to identify.

7. Create a visual presentation to illustrate the unique features of your region. (Photo Story or PPT would be good choices) See student samples (Interior Plains PPT; Interior Plains Photo Story)

8. Include a title for each picture/slide you are creating.  (See examplar)

9. Rehearse or record the details you want to include in your presentation (for each image or slide)

- Reflects understanding of landforms and terrain unique to the region

- Clearly understandable to the viewer

- Pictures/sounds/transitions etc. enhance rather than detract from the presentation.

VIEW AND ANALYZE (2-3 Class periods)

Meet with other students who have researched the same region.  Print out or get a copy of "Five Best "Representations of a Region" chart from your teacher.  Choose five words or phrases and photographs
that best describe the region. Be prepared to defend your decision.

Presentations will be made by region. Each student will take a turn presenting their PPT or Photo story.

After the presentation, class members who have not researched this region will brainstorm which 5 words or phrases and pictures they believe best describes this region. The presenting group will then share their results with the class. They must be prepared to defend their decisions if there is a discrepancy.

Once a consensus has been reached the Five Best Representation of a Region Chart can be posted.
