Coin Toss: Probability

Your soccer coach has asked you to be the team captain for this season. What an honour!

The captain has many responsibilities. One of them will be to go to the middle of the field for the coin toss to start each game.

Should you call heads or tails? To discover which is most likely or least likely to occur you will conduct a test.

Activity #1

First go to this website (Virtual Manipulative: Coin Tossing )  and toss a coin TEN times. What is the result? How many heads? How many tails?

Now do this 4 more times. Write down the results in this chart.

Add up the total number of heads and the total number of tails.

                                                    Activity #2

Take the data from the chart (Totals)  and enter it into the Graph Club.

Create your own graphs or Use this Template (Graph Club 2.0)

Create two types of graphs using your data. (bar graph and a pie graph)

Hand in your graphs and the answers to the questions in the "notes" section.

Based on your information what coin will you call in your next soccer game?

      Activity #3

Check with the other members of the class. Are their results similar? Will this affect your decision on the coin toss in your next soccer game? Explain.
