School Uniforms:

Pros and Cons


Introduction:

    You are a member of the School Board.  The Board is meeting with parents and administrators to decide if the schools in your area should adopt a school uniform policy. You will be divided into groups of two. One group will need to convince those present that uniforms are beneficial, while the second group will give reasons why uniforms are not.

Task:

These are the tasks involved in completing your project:

  1. Do some research and list the pros and cons of school uniforms. Complete the pros and cons template or use Inspiration.  Pros and Cons Template Use the resources below to help you.
  1. Your will be assigned an argument to support. Your job is to find information to support your argument. Work with another student who has been assigned the same argument to discuss and compare information.
  2. Consider:
  3. Select one of the activities below, or both if time allows.  Create a graph to add to your PowerPoint presentation. (Make sure it helps to "sell" your argument.)
                                  

        Poll taker/Grapher:   Create a survey of at least 5 questions concerning the issue of school uniforms.
                                          You will go around the school and/or the community to survey and opinions of against or
                                          for the issue.  After you have your results, you will create graphs and
                                         charts (Excel or Create a Graph) by using a computer program for your presentation.

        Budget Adviser:  You will weigh the pros and cons concerning the cost of having uniforms vs. buying
                                     school clothes. Investigate the cost (websites) Create a presentation to demonstrate which
                                     point of view you have chosen.
