The ICT Curriculum is a provincial curriculum which was implemented in 2003. It addresses the need for students from grades 1-12 to be prepared to use and apply technology in effective, efficient, and ethical ways both in school and beyond. It is not intended to be taught as a stand-alone course, but rather to be integrated into core curriculum of math, English, social studies, and science.
The Goal of the Program of Studies is to enable our students to become:
| capable information and communication technology users | |
| information seekers, analyzers and evaluators | |
| problem solvers and decision makers | |
| communicators and collaborators | |
| informed, responsible and contributing citizens |
Today our students have access to computers with high speed Internet, a multitude of online resources and a plethora of electronic devices. The Internet, in particular, has afforded students an endless amount of information and powerful new ways of analyzing and understanding the world around them. The challenge of this curriculum is about using these new technological tools to enhance student learning.
Black Gold Implementation program
Black Gold began preparing teachers for implementation of this curriculum in the 2000-2001 school year. Since that time teachers in the Black Gold School District have received support from Technology Integration Facilitators who work individually with teachers to help them integrate technology in the curriculum in a meaningful way. Educational support is provided on an ongoing basis.
